The film opens with one couples, Cruz (Amy Lennox) and Billy (Simon Ginty), in a tent in the woods camping. While having sexual intercourse, three mutant cannibals walk towards the tent, each with their own weapon. As the cannibals enter the tent, they startle the couple and Billy punches one of them in the face. It’s revealed that the cannibals are actually just Cruz and Billy’s friends playing a prank on them. The group, Billy, Cruz, Lita (Roxanne McKee), Gus (Paul Luebke), and Julian (Oliver Hoare), are out camping and waiting for the annual West Virginia Mountain Men festival to start up. Meanwhile, a news team are at the festival site reporting the crowds preparing for the night ahead. The news reporter gets gets tired of reporting and decides to go for a run. The cannibals come across her, and chop her finger off. She’s encountered by a man named, Maynard (Doug Bradley), who soothes her. He brings her up for help and pulls out an axe, and brutally cuts her with its blades.
Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines is a 2012 American horror film and the fifth installment in theWrong Turn film series that began with Wrong Turn and was followed by Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead and Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings. The film serves as a second prequel and continues chronologically where Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings left off. The film was released direct-to-DVD on October 23, 2012.
The movie background was altered compared to the previous movies in the series, which was somewhat refreshing, except I just can’t buy into the idea of three backwoods individuals who has never been exposed to electricity and cell phone towers understanding the best methods for disrupting these facilities and towers, not to mention the fact that their “dumbed down” genetics which are prone to a savage type violence should not give them the capability to operate complex machinery they’ve never previously used – a bush hog. I did like the acting and even several characters choices such as a boy trying to convince the sheriff to let him search for his girlfriend, appealing to the sheriffs heart, and also the sheriff stating that it’s her job to run to the next building to call for help and she won’t allow any of the other people trapped in the police barracks to risk their lives. I do wish the writers would have played around more with the “convenient” festival that was taking place during the slaughter.
A small West Virginia town is hosting the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where throngs of costumed party goers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals kill the fun when they trick and treat themselves to a group of visiting college students.
